Petland Discounts was started
in 1965 when Neil Padron opened his first store in Glen Oaks, Queens.
Now, with over 50 years in the Pet product retailing business he
has grown the Petland Discounts chain into more than 90 stores
with-in the tri-state area. Petland Discounts is an independently
owned company and is the largest, continuously operated pet chain
in America.
Petland Discounts offers a full
line of aquariums and pet supplies (over 6000 different products)
as well as live fish, birds, reptiles and small animals. Petland
Discounts staff is trained to take time with and listen to customers
needs and concerns. They build relationships, and are well trained
to offer advice about the health and well being of the customer’s
pet.
In 2003 at the American Pet Products Manufacturers
Association (APPMA) Annual Breakfast, Neil Padron was inducted into
the Pet Industry Hall of Fame. Neil Padron, the founder and President
of Petland Discounts, Inc has built an empire in the pet industry
that merits his induction into the APPMA Hall of Fame. “Padron
was awarded this high honor for the significant contribution his
business has made in the pet industry and the pivotal role he has
played in promoting the sale of pets and pet products in the United
States,” says Pet Business Magazine. Padron and Petland Discounts
is the first retailer to ever be inducted into the APPMA Hall of
Fame. “No one has shown the commitment to making companion
animals available to the public more then Neil Padron” said
Allan Levey of the Hartz Mountain Group and APPMA board director.
This is the highest honor bestowed in the pet industry.
During the APPMA breakfast Allan Levy and Bob Devine
from The Hartz Mountain Corporation along with Rolf C. Hagen, President
of the Hagen Corporation presented Neil with the Hall of Fame Induction
and a Lifetime Achievement Award. Employees, friends and business
associates were all on hand to show their support and congratulate
Neil on his achievement.
Petland Discounts is very involved
in Community Outreach by providing a school program to educate students
and to promote responsible pet ownership by introducing a hands-on
educational experience to children of all ages. Petland Discounts
also works with many local shelters, humane societies and rescue
groups throughout the tri-state area to help encourage animal adoptions.
Because of the overpopulation of dogs and cats, Petland Discounts
works closely with many of these organizations to help promote adoptions
and offers savings on products to people who have adopted their
pet.
