owners to help raise money for the Long Island Chapter of the National
Multiple Sclerosis Society. This year over 250 people attended the
walk making it the most attended Pooch Parade in years.
Long
Islanders of all ages along with their dogs enjoyed a day of fun;
which included Petland Discounts Petting Zoo, raffles and free give
aways. Information tables where provided by Nutro dog and cat food,
Center for Specialized Veterinary Care, Pet Peeves, Canine Companion
for Independence, Grateful Greyhounds and Bide-A-Wee. The day consisted
of over 100 volunteers and over 15 teams, which helped to raise more
than $40,000 to help in the mission to end the devastating effects
of Multiple Sclerosis.
“The mission of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is to
end the devastating effects of MS. They do this through the extensive
research they support to find the cause, cure and improved treatment
of the disease; the comprehensive services they provide to people with
MS and their families; the professional education programs offered to
assist health care providers and federal levels to encourage public
policies supportive of the needs of people with multiple sclerosis.
Approximately 400,000 Americans acknowledge having MS, and every week
about 200 people are diagnosed. Worldwide, MS may affect 2.5 million
individuals.”’
